New electoral districts announced
‘Redistricting based on population changes’

The provincial government has released its redistricting plan.

The revisions to the law on electoral districts and provincial council representation will go into effect by next June.

Following a surge in population, District 6 will be divided. Samdo 1-dong and Samdo 2-dong will remain in one district, while Ora-dong will become a new district.

In District 9, Ara-dong will become an independent district, while Samyang and Bonggae-dong will be combined into one.

The two districts in Ildo 2-dong will be combined.

In Seogwipo, Districts 20 and 21 will also be combined. Those include the neighborhoods of Songsan-dong, Jeongbang-dong, Jungang-dong, Cheonji-dong, Hyodon-dong, and Yeongcheon-dong.

Provincial officials say population changes guided the redistricting decisions.

The province will update this plan if its proposal to add two seats to the provincial council is accepted by February.

새로운 제주도의원 선거구 획정안 공개

내년 6월에 적용하게 될 새로운 제주도의원 선거구 획정안이 공개됐습니다.

제주특별자치도는 이같은 내용을 골자로 한 제주도의원선거구획정 조례 개정안을 입법예고했습니다.

주요내용을 보면 인구 상한선을 초과한 제 6선거구의 경우 삼도 1.2동이 하나의 선거구로, 오라동이 독립선거구로 분구됐습니다.

제9선거구의 경우 아라동이 독립선거구로, 삼양과 봉개동이 하나의 선거구로 조정됐습니다.

대신 제2선거구와 제3선거구로 나뉘었던 일도2동은 하나의 선거구로 통합됐습니다.

또 서귀포시 20선거구와 21선거구 였던 송산동과 정방동, 중앙동, 천지동, 효돈동, 영천동은 하나의 선거구로 합쳐졌습니다.

제주특별자치도는 이번 조례안을 입법예고하면서 인구 수를 제 1기준으로 적용했다고 밝히고 있습니다.
