Failed to alert students, parents to school asbestos removal work

Local inspectors say two public officials failed to properly alert the students and parents of one area elementary school of asbestos removal work at the facility.
The Jeju Audit and Inspection Commission found the two Jeju City Office of Education employees neglected to properly supervise the work and generally mishandled the project. It has recommended that both be given official warnings.

Inspectors determined that when the two ordered that restrooms at the school be repaired, they did not inform the school that asbestos in the ceiling would be removed as part of the project. They also neglected to keep students from entering the construction scene.

제주도감사위원회는 석면 해체 공사 감독을 소홀히 하고 용역 업무를 부적절하게 처리한 제주시교육지원청 소속 공직자 2명에게 주의 처분을 요구했습니다.
이들은 지난해 7월 제주시 한 초등학교 화장실 수리공사 용역을 발주하면서
석면철거 공정이 있다는 사실을 해당 학교에게 사전 고지하지 않았고 공사현장에 대한 출입 통제가 제대로 되지 않아 학생들의 건강상에 우려를 초래했습니다.
