1. Domestic flyers can opt for fingerprint scans rather than ID checks
Biometric access system goes online Monday in Jeju, Gimpo

Beginning next week, flyers at the airports in Jeju and Gimpo will be able to use fingerprints to verify their identity before boarding.

The transport ministry says flyers can opt for the biometric access system rather than an inspection of their national identification card beginning January 29th. The option is only available for domestic flights.

In order to use it, passengers must register their finger- and palm prints on the third floor of the Jeju airport’s passenger terminal.

Authorities plan to expand the use of this service this year to include the Gimhae and Daegu airports.

29일부터 제주공항 지문인식 서비스 실시

다음주부터 제주와 김포공항에서도 지문 인식만으로 항공기 탑승 수속을 할 수 있게 됩니다.

국토교통부는 오는 29일부터 제주와 김포공항에서 국내선 항공기 탑승 전 본인 신원확인 절차를 신분증이 아닌 생체인식으로 대체하는 서비스를 시행한다고 밝혔습니다.

이 서비스를 이용하기 위해서는 제주공항 여객청사 3층에 마련된 등록대에서 사전에 손바닥 정맥과 지문을 등록하면 됩니다.

국토부는 올해 안에 김해와 대구 등 다른 공항에도 해당 서비스를 확대할 방침입니다.
