3. Crackdown on product mislabeling
Officials will be inspecting Lunar New Year holiday items through Feb. 14
Local authorities are cracking down on product origin mislabeling ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.
The Jeju branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service is inspecting items through February 14th.
Inspectors are focusing on the products needed for ancestral rites or those often given as holiday gifts. They will be checking items that are being sold at large retailers and traditional markets as well as online.
They are looking for cheap imports labeled as domestic products, grains with mislabeled production dates, and false product numbers.
Authorities uncovered violations at 55 shops last year. The problems at 38 of them were related to origin mislabeling, and those were referred to the prosecutor's office.
