Recently, more than one thousand people are visiting Chusa Memorial Hall in Daejeong-eup every Saturday and every Sunday.

The museum pays tribute to the calligrapher Chusa Kim Jeong-hui, who was exiled to Jeju in the 1840s.

The World Natural Heritage office says about 11-hundred people were visiting each weekend day at the end of last year, which is about twice the average.

The museum welcomed some 14,000 people last month, compared to just 10,000 in December 2016.

The office is running a number of promotions to boost interest in the artist and his museum, including special exhibitions and allowing visitors to record their thoughts in a guestbook.

추사관 '인기'…하루 방문객 1천명 넘어

제주로 유배돼 살았던 추사 김정희를 기리기 위해 설립된 대정읍 추사관 방문객이 하루 1천 명을 넘고 있습니다.

세계유산본부는 지난해 말 추사관 주말 방문객은 하루 1천 1백여 명으로 평소보다 2배 이상 늘어났다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 지난해 12월 한달 방문객수는 1만 4천여 명으로 1년 전과 비교해 1만 명 가까이 급증했습니다.

세계유산본부는 추사 작품 전시와 추사체 방명록 쓰기 같은 다양한 홍보 체험 이벤트를 진행하고 있습니다.
