Large retailers in Seogwipo will be closed February 16th, which is Lunar New Year’s Day.

At a recent meeting of the large retailers’ development council, attendees decided to adjust one of their mandatory off-days for the month.

E-mart and Homeplus will therefore be closed on Lunar New Year’s Day rather than the regularly scheduled second Friday of the month, which in February falls on the 9th.

This comes after Jeju City officials made a similar adjustment in order to allow the employees of large retailers time to celebrate the holiday.

서귀포지역 대형마트가 설 명절 당일 휴업합니다.

서귀포시는 최근 유통업상생발전협의회를 열고 대형마트 의무휴업일을 한시적으로 변경했습니다.

이에따라 서귀포시내에 있는 이마트와 홈플러스 등 대형마트는 당초 둘째주 금요일인 오는 9일 대신 설 명절 당일인 16일에 휴업하게 됩니다.

앞서 제주시지역 대형마트도 직원들의 휴식권을 보장하는 차원에서 의무휴업일을 설날로 변경한 바 있습니다.
