2. Cause of illness at daycare ‘unknown’
Nausea struck dozens of children last month

Authorities have been unable to determine why dozens of children at a Jeju City daycare center suddenly began very sick last month.

Within the space of a day or two in mid-January, the youngsters were nauseous and vomiting.

Provincial health authorities have tested for food poisoning; pathogenic infections, like a norovirus outbreak; and poisoning from gas or other contaminants. None of the tests have come back positive for anything that could have caused the illness.

Authorities have therefore issued a general recommendation that everyone practice proper personal hygiene.

지난달 중순 제주시내 모 어린이집 원생들의 집단 구토 원인은 결국 밝혀지지 못했습니다.

제주특별자치도 보건당국은 그동안 급식을 통한 식중독과 노로바이러스 등 병원체에 의한 감염, 일산화탄소 등 가스나 독극물에 의한 중독에 가능성을 두고
역학조사를 실시했으나 원인으로 추정할만한 병원체를 발견하지 못했다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 원인불명의 구토증상으로 마무리하게 됐다며 개인위생관리에 신경써 줄 것을 당부했습니다.
