Agricultural water used for grass field maintenance

Over a dozen island schools have been found illegally using agricultural water to keep their playground grass green.

The provincial office of education says it uncovered violations at 15 schools over the past three years. Water specifically for the farming sector is cheaper than general water. The office says it has put a complete stop to the violations.

Island schools spend a total of 1.4 billion won on water every year. 127 of them have natural grass fields.

천연 잔디 운동장 관리를 위해 농업용수를 불법 사용한 학교가 적지 않은 것으로 나타났습니다

제주도교육청에 따르면 천연잔디 운동장 관리를 위해 일반 수도 요금보다 저렴한 농업용수를 불법으로 사용한 학교가 최근 3년 동안 15군데에 달하는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

교육당국은 농업용수 불법 사용 학교에 대해 즉각 폐쇄 조치를 지시했습니다.

한편 천연잔디 운동장이 조성된 도내 학교는 모두 127군데로 이들 학교에서 부담하는 수도요금은 연간 14억원에 달합니다.
