1. National Assembly passes revision to Jeju Special Law
Province given authority to restrict number of rental cars

At a recent plenary session, the National Assembly a passed revision to the Jeju Special Law about island transportation.

The implementation of the island’s public transport priority lane system, which is announced monthly according to the Urban Traffic Promotion Act, will be transferred to the Jeju Special Law.

The changes also give the province the authority to control the local supply of rental vehicles by restricting their registration.

Lawmaker Wi Seong-gon proposed the revision in December. The Public Administration and Security Committee passed it February 22nd, and the proposal passed at both the Legislation & Judiciary Committee and an assembly plenary session on the 28th.

'차량운행제한·렌터카 총량제' 특별법 국회 통과

제주전역에서의 자동차 운행 제한과 렌터카 총량제 도입을 골자로 한 제주특별법 개정안이 국회 본회의를 통과했습니다.

이에 따라 현재 도시교통촉진법에 따라 한달에 한번 공고되는 대중교통 우선차로제 시행과 운행제한은 앞으로 제주특별법으로 대체됩니다.

또 렌터카 등록 제한 근거가 마련돼 제주도 차원에서 수급 조절에 나설 수 있게 됩니다.

이번 제주특별법 개정안은 지난해 12월 위성곤 의원이 대표 발의했으며 지난 22일 행정안전위원회를 거쳐 28일 하루에만 법제사법위원회와 본회의에서 의결됐습니다.
