2. Free taxi rides for senior citizens from rural communities
Up to 24 times annually for rides costing \7,000 or less

Elderly islanders living in rural communities will soon be able to use taxis for free.

Representatives from the provincial government, Jeju Bank, the Jeju Taxi Association, the Private Taxi Association, and BC Card signed an agreement Wednesday to offer the free rides.

Beginning Friday, all island residents at least 70 years of age whose official residence is in either an “eup” or a “myeon” district qualify for the service. The charge for the rides must be no more than 7,000 won and one person is allowed 24 rides per year.

Once it’s up and running, provincial officials plan to expand the program to include senior citizens living in urban “dong” administrative districts.

읍면지역의 어르신을 위한 행복택시 사업이 추진됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 오늘 오전 제주도청 회의실에서 제주은행, 제주도택시운송사업조합, 개인택시운송사업조합, 비씨카드와 공공형 행복택시 운영 협약식을 체결했습니다.

이번 협약에 따라 모레(9일)부터 읍면지역에 주소를 두고 있는 70살 이상의 어르신들이 택시를 이용할 경우 한번에 최대 7천원까지, 그리고 1년에 24차례까지 무료로 이용할 수 있게 됩니다.

제주도는 이번 행복택시 사업을 동지역까지 확대하는 방안을 추진할 예정입니다.
