2. New bill proposes national support for local walking trails
Wi Seong-gon calls for creation of new committee in tourism ministry

One of Jeju’s representatives at the National Assembly wants the national government to manage and financially support Jeju Olle Trails and other island hiking paths.

Democratic Party representative (위성곤) Wi Seong-gon’s proposal covers the creation, management, and support of local trails.

The bill calls for the foundation of a new committee within the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It would oversee local paths, make basic five-year plans for the island’s trail system, and fix administrative loopholes.

The bill also includes provisions to create and operate an information network for trail users.

제주 올레길 등 다양한 걷기 여행길을 정부가 관리하고 지원하는 방안이 추진됩니다.

더불어민주당 위성곤 국회의원은 이 같은 내용을 담은 '걷기 여행길 조성, 관리와 지원에 관한 법률안'을 대표 발의했습니다.

이 법안은 문화체육관광부에 걷기 여행길 조성.관리위원회를 설치해 5년마다 기본계획을 수립하고 관리.운영상의 미흡한 부분을 보완하도록 했습니다.

또한 이용자들에게 정보를 제공하기 위한 정보망을 구축해 운영하는 내용도 포함됐습니다.
