3. Another case of tick-borne disease
2 people in 2 days diagnosed with SFTS
Just yesterday, we reported on the first case of the year of an infectious disease spread through tick bites, and health authorities now say it has been confirmed in a second person.
The Jeju City Seobu Public Health Center reports that tests for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome in a 53-year-old man surnamed Han came back positive. The Aewol-eup resident had sought treatment for a fever and general fatigue, both of which he experienced after work at a fruit orchard and on a farm.
He is recovering and his symptoms are improving.
Because SFTS is spread through ticks, health authorities recommend wearing long sleeved clothing for outdoor activities, applying tick repellant, and being careful to fully wash after coming back in.
