3. Province boosts funding for semi-public bus system
Will spend nearly ￦14b more than planned

The provincial government will spend nearly 100 billion won this year in support of the island’s semi-public bus system.

Local officials have boosted the budget for the system from 85.5 billion won to 99.5 billion.

They say the increase is due to higher labor costs, vehicle maintenance fees, and fuel prices.
 
The officials say they will also work to streamline the service by combining or closing routes that are running in the red, and replacing the full-size buses on lightly-used tourist bus routes with smaller vehicles.

버스 준공영제 예산 1천억 육박…140억 추가 투입

올해 버스 준공영제 지원 예산이 1천억 원에 육박할 전망입니다.

제주도는 올해 준공영제 예산으로 당초 855억 원에서 140억 원이 늘어난 995억 원을 지원한다고 밝혔습니다.

인건비와 차량 유지비, 기름 값 인상 등으로 예산 증액이 필요하다고 설명했습니다.

제주도는 적자 노선을 통폐합하고 이용객이 적은 관광버스는 소형버스로 교체하는 등 자구노력을 하겠다고 덧붙혔습니다.
