1. Jeju City to modernize Dodu-dong sewage treatment plant

Officials are responding to ongoing complaints about the sewage treatment process and foul odors at the sewage plant in Dodu-dong, Jeju City by saying they will modernize the facility.

The province will spend 388.7 billion won through 2025 on the project. It will boost the daily capacity of the plant from 130,000 to 220,000 tons.

Officials want to maximize fairness and transparency in the process by financing the project with public, rather than private, funding.

All of the sewage treatment facilities will be built underground, with parks and amenities for local people aboveground.

The province will form a committee comprising government staff, experts, and local residents to make sure the development proceeds smoothly.

제주시 도두 하수처리장 현대화사업 추진

하수처리와 악취문제로 논란을 빚고 있는 제주시 도두동의 공공하수처리시설 현대화사업이 추진됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 내년부터 오는 2025년까지 사업비 3천 887억원을 투입해 도두 하수처리장을 현대화해 하루 처리용량을 현재 13만톤에서 22만톤으로 확대합니다.

특히 공정성과 투명성 확보를 위해 민간이 아닌 재정투자방식으로 추진하게 됩니다.

또 하수처리시설을 전면 지하에 시설하고 지상에는 공원 등 주민편의시설을 갖추게 됩니다.

제주도는 원활한 사업 추진을 위해 행정과 전문가, 지역주민이 참여하는 '현대화사업 추진위원회'를 구성해 운영한다는 계획입니다.
