Indian, Sri Lankans given suspended prison terms

Jeju District Court has given one Indian national and two Sri Lankans national suspended prison sentences for faking asylum applications.

Chief judge Shin Jae-hwan sentenced the Indian man to one year in prison, suspended for two years, for helping the Sri Lankan defendants fake their application for refugee status.

The judge sentenced the Sri Lankans to six months in prison, suspended for two years, for their role in the scheme.

The court found them guilty of violating immigration law and undermining the fairness of the asylum process.

허위 난민신청 인도·스리랑카인 징역형

제주지방법원 형사3단독 신재환 부장판사는 지난 6월 돈을 받고 허위 난민신청을 알선한 인도 국적 35살 다 모 피고인에게징역 1년에 집행유예 2년을 선고했습니다.

이와함께 다씨의 소개로 난민신청을 한 스리랑카 국적 36살 파 모피고인에게는 징역 6월에 집행유예 2년을 선고했습니다.

법원은 피고인들의 범행이 출입국관리와 난민판정 절차의 공정성을 훼손해 죄질이 좋지 않다며 양형 이유를 설명했습니다.
