￦16.5b set aside for pet funeral facility, other initiatives

The provincial government has drawn up a five-year plan to improve animal welfare that includes funding for a pet funeral facility.

Officials have earmarked 16.5 billion won for the plan, which will be spent between next year and the end of 2023.

Three billion of that is set aside for a pet funeral facility. Another 750 million won will be used to help pet owners spay or neuter their animals.

3.6 billion won is set aside to create a team to catch and rescue abandoned animals, and 3 billion won will be used to improve conditions at livestock farms by expanding the animal welfare certification program available to them.

동물복지 5개년 계획…'장묘시설' 조성

제주특별자치도가 반려동물장묘시설 조성을 포함한 동물복지 5개년 계획을 수립했습니다.

총 투자 예산은 165억 원으로 투자 기간은 내년부터 2023년까지 5년 입니다.

주요 사업으로는 반려동물 장묘시설 설치에 30억 원, 반려동물 중성화수술 지원 7억 5천 만 원, 유기동물 구조 포획팀 운영 35억 5천만 원 등입니다.

아울러 30억 원을 투입해 가축 사육 환경 개선을 위한 동물복지 인증 축산농장도
확대할 계획입니다.
