5. April 3rd Incident memorial unveiled in Osaka
Japanese city is home to many people with Jeju roots

A memorial stone for April 3rd Incident victims now stands in Osaka, the home of most Japanese residents with Jeju roots.

A committee of victims’ relatives in Japan unveiled the memorial Sunday at (통국사) Tongguksa Temple, which is in the (텐노)Tenno District of Osaka.

The memorial was paid for by donations from Jeju people who have been living in Japan. It incorporates stones collected here in Jeju by April 3rd Incident organizations.

The committee says the memorial to Jeju victims in Japan promotes peace and human rights.

日 오사카에 4·3희생자 위령비 건립

일본에서 제주도민이 가장 많이 거주하는 오사카에 제주 4·3 희생자 위령비가 세워졌습니다.

재일본 제주4.3희생자 유족회는 18일 오사카시 텐노지구에 위치한 통국사 경내에서 위령비 제막식을 개최했습니다.

이번 위령비는 지난 20여 년 간 재일 제주인들의 자발적인 모금과 4.3 관련 단체가 제주 마을의 돌을 모아주며 건립됐습니다.

희생자 유족회는 제주 4.3에 대한 기억을 오사카에 남겨 평화와 인권의 소중함을 일깨우겠다고 밝혔습니다.
