35 local lawmakers call for tough action against 3 National Assembly members

35 provincial council members have issued a statement calling for the dismissal of three National Assembly members.

The three Liberty Korea Party council members targeted for dismissal described the May 18th Gwangju Uprising as a “riot” and a “leftist movement.”

Their critics blasted that characterization of the uprising as “absurd” and a “denial of constitutional order.” They are also demanding that the three issue a formal apology to all Koreans.

Finally, they are calling for the enactment of a law to punish historical distortions.

제주도의원 35명이 성명서를 내고 5.18 망언을 한 자유한국당 국회의원 3명의 제명 처분과 대국민 사과를 촉구했습니다.

의원들은 이미 역사적 평가가 끝난 518 민주화운동을 폭동 또는 종북좌파라고 한
국회의원 3명의 주장은 망언이며 헌정질서를 부인한 행위라고 비판했습니다.

이를 막기 위해 역사를 왜곡하거나 비방할 경우 처벌할 수 있는 5.18 왜곡 처벌법 제정을 촉구했습니다.
