3. JFEM demands investigation into missing waste
8,000T of compressed waste unaccounted for since April 2015

The Jeju Federation for Environmental Movements has issued a press release on Friday demanding an investigation into compressed waste disposal operations.

The foundation claims over 8,000 tons of compressed waste have been unaccounted for since Jeju City began the compressed waste system in April 2015. There are 15 waster compression companies that have missing waste, three of which are located in Jeju.

The foundation argued that the Jeju-based companies should be investigated to identify their waste disposal operations and that legal action should be taken if any unlawful activity is found.

제주환경운동연합은 15일 보도자료를 내고
제주시가 지난 2015년 4월 압축쓰레기를 처음 생산한 이후
현재 15곳의 업체에서 처리한 8천여톤의 행방이 묘연하다며
이에 대한 철저한 진상조사를 촉구했습니다.

특히 15곳 업체 가운데 3군데는 제주라며
지금이라도 어떤 방법으로
어떻게 처리했는지 반드시 확인해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

만약 이들 업체에 대한 조사 과정에서 문제가 확인되면
즉각적인 책임을 묻고
합당한 조치를 취해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
