1. Prosecutor submits report on 4·3 survivor’s compensation
Public attention focuses on court decision

The local prosecutor’s office submitted a written report regarding the compensation of exonerated victims of the April 3rd Incident on May 8th.

Attorneys of the 18 survivors requested 5.3 billion won in total to compensate for the unlawful arrests. The sum was calculated based on multiplying the minimum wage to the period of detention and number of court appearances.

The prosecutor’s office requested the court to decide whether to indemnify the innocent victims and to consider the period of detention and psychological damages when calculating the amount of compensation.

제주지방검찰청은
4.3 생존 수형인과 가족 등 18명이 청구한
형사보상사건에 대해
8일자로 제주지방법원에
의견서를 제출했습니다.

검찰 측은 의견서에서
형사보상이 인정되는지 여부와 함께
수형인들의 구금기간 산정,
정신적 피해 정도 등을 감안해
법원이 결정해 줄 것을 요구했습니다.

앞서 변호인단은
옥살이를 한 기간에 최저시급을 적용해
53억여 원의 형사보상 청구액을 산출했으며
법원이 최종 지급 여부를 판단하게 됩니다.
