Criminal compensations set at \ 334K per day

The survivors of the April 3rd Incident who were acquitted of all charges after the court's ruling last January will be given criminal compensation for the unjust conviction and wrongful imprisonment.

The Jeju District Court stated that it accepted claims for compensations made by the survivors and bereaved families last February in consideration of the historical significance of the April 3rd Incident and the purpose of the Criminal Compensation Act.

The daily compensation has been set at 334,000 won, considering this year's minimum wage.

The amount of compensation charged by the victims range from a minimum of 80 million won to 1.4 billion won, depending on the length of their detention, and amounts to a total of 5.3 billion won.

지난 1월 법원의 공소기각 판결로
사실상 무죄를 인정받은 제주4.3 생존수형인들이
형사보상을 받게 됐습니다.

제주지방법원은
4.3생존수형인과 가족 등이 지난 2월 청구한
불법 구금 형사보상 청구에 대해
4.3사건의 역사적 의의와 형사보상법의 취지 등을 고려해
인용 결정을 내렸다고 밝혔습니다.

1일 보상금은 올해 최저임금을 적용해
33만 4천 원으로 책정됐습니다.

생존수형인들이 청구한 금액은
구금기간에 따라 최저 8천여 만원에서 최대 14억여 원이며
모두 53억 여원 규모입니다.
