Although he was unaware of his location, he finally arrived on Jeju at a port in (행원리) Haengwon-ri, (구좌읍) Gujwa-eup after 43 days of sailing.
Historical records say that when he came to know he was moved to the farthest island from the capital city, he shed rivers of tears.

Gwanghae had to live alone in a house surrounded by double stone walls.
He could not go out freely because his movement was controlled and most books were not allowed to him.

He fell ill and died on Jeju in 1641.
The four years of his life in Jeju are depicted at the Jeju Folklore and Natural History Museum.

INTERVIEW
Jeong Se-ho / Director, Jeju Folklore and Natural History Museum
This exhibition was organized to let locals know that Gwanghae had stayed in Jeju for 4 years and 2 months and give momentum to create interesting historical content in the old downtown.

"광해 임금님이 4년 2개월 동안 제주에 머물러있었다는 사실을 우리 제주도민들에게도 알리고 이런 것을 가지고 원도심 내에 새로운 문화 콘텐츠를 만드는데 원동력이 되고자 기획했습니다."

The (조선) Joseon Dynasty's 15th king who was detained and died on this far-off island is portrayed in a refreshing way.
