Construction of 'Statue of Peace' promoted in Seogwipo City
Inaugural general meeting to be held through social media

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the late (김학순) Kim Hak-sun's official testimony on behalf of the comfort women victims, the construction of ‘the Statue of Peace’ is being promoted in Seogwipo City.

The Seogwipo City Statue of Peace promotion committee will hold an inaugural general meeting through social media on the 14th to discuss the location of the statue, construction date and to seek ways to raise project funds.

At the same time, they plan to carry out activities to foster correct historical awareness for future generations to prevent them from forgetting the inhumane atrocities that existed in the Japanese military’s comfort women system and the sacrifices of the many victims.

Meanwhile, the Statue of Peace in Jeju was first erected in 2015 at (방일리) Bangili Park in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City.



5. 서귀포시에도 '평화의 소녀상' 건립 추진

고 김학순 할머니의 위안부 피해 공식 증언 30주년을 맞아
서귀포시민을 중심으로 평화의 소녀상 건립이 추진됩니다.

서귀포시 평화의소녀상 세움 추진위원회는
오는 14일 SNS를 통해 창립총회를 열고
평화의 소녀상 건립시기와 장소,
제작비용 마련 방안 등을 논의할 예정입니다.

이와 함께 일본군 위안부 제도의 반인권, 반역사적 만행과
피해자들의 희생을 잊지 않고
미래세대들에게 올바른 역사 인식을 조성하기 위한 활동도 펼칠 계획입니다.

한편, 제주지역의 평화의 소녀상은
지난 2015년 제주시 노형동 방일리 공원에 처음으로 세워졌습니다.
