Island Seatbelt Usage Low

Although it is mandatory to wear vehicle seat belts, the rate of wearing seat belts in Jeju is lower than in the country.

According to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and the Jeju Police Agency, as of last year, the rate of wearing seat belts in the province was 77%, which was lower than the national average of 84%.

The usage rate for the rear seat dropped to 16% which is only one out of five.

Meanwhile, police have been conducting a two-month crackdown since June and has uncovered 860 cases so far.

차량 안전띠 착용이 의무화됐지만 제주지역 안전띠 착용률은 전국보다 낮은 것으로 나타났습니다.

한국교통안전공단과 제주경찰청에 따르면
지난해 기준, 제주지역 안전띠 착용률은 77%로
전국 평균인 84%보다 낮았습니다.

특히 뒷좌석 착용률 16%로 앞좌석의 5분 1 수준에 불과했습니다.

한편 경찰은 지난 6월부터 두달 동안 현장 단속을 벌여 안전띠 미착용 860건을 적발했습니다.
