The number of marriages in Jeju Island last year was the lowest ever recorded, while the divorce rate was the highest in the country.

According to Statistics Korea, the number of marriages in the area last year increased by 2.1% to 2,710 compared to the previous year, which was the lowest ever due to the aftermath of COVID-19.

The per capita marriage rate, which refers to the number of marriages per 1,000 people, remained the same as the previous year at 4.0, which was the lowest in history for two consecutive years.

In contrast, the number of divorces last year was 1,560, an increase by 5% compared to the previous year, and the per capita divorce rate was 2.3, which was the highest in the country.

통계청에 따르면 지난해 도내 혼인건수는 2천710여 건으로 코로나19 여파로 역대 최저치를 기록했던 전년과 비교해 2.1% 증가하는데 그쳤습니다.

인구 1천명당 혼인 건수를 뜻하는 조혼인율은 전년과 같은 4.0건으로 2년 연속 역대 최저를 기록했습니다.

반면 지난해 이혼은 1천560여 건으로 1년 전과 비교해 5% 증가했으며 조이혼율은 2.3명으로 전국에서 가장 높았습니다.
