Teenage Vehicle Theft on the Rise


A man walks towards a vehicle parked at an apartment complex.
After hesitating for a moment, he opens the door and rummages inside.
A few minutes later, he exits the parking lot with something in his hand.


The next night, the same man appears at the same place and steals from another vehicle.
He is accompanied by another man, and they exchange gift cards or other items before entering the parking lot again.
Several reports of vehicle theft incidents have been filed recently in this apartment complex, and the CCTV footage has captured their criminal activities clearly.

A resident suspected that his own vehicle had been targeted. He was able to confirm the theft using his mobile phone that showed what happened to his car. Then he reported it to the police.

Both suspects have been identified as teenagers.
Last week, they stole cash, gift cards, and other items from three vehicles in the parking lot.
They targeted vehicles that had side mirrors unfolded that could imply the cars were unlocked.


Recently, there have been reports of vehicle theft in the area, including apartment complexes and villas.
Among the vehicles parked in parking lots, those with open windows or unlocked doors have been targeted.


As similar incidents continue to be reported, residents are sharing information about the situation and urging each other to be vigilant about vehicle security.

I was advised to lock the doors and double check them when parking as there have been cash thefts from vehicles reported.

On the 14th of this month, the police arrested two teenagers suspected of vehicle theft in an apartment complex.
The police are expanding their investigation to determine if there are any additional individuals involved in the crimes and if they have been involved in other vehicle theft incidents as well.


This month, eight teenagers were apprehended by the police for stealing about ten bicycles and cash from vehicles near the Jeju Global Education City.


From 2020 to the present, there have been over 1,800 cases of juvenile crime reported.
Among them, thefts accounted for the highest proportion with over 740 cases.

이 남성은 다음 날 밤에도
이 곳에 나타나 다른 차량을 털어 갑니다.

함께 있던 다른 남성과
상품권 등을 주고 받고 다시 주차장으로 들어갑니다.

최근 이 아파트 단지에서 차량 절도 사건 신고가 수 차례 접수됐고
CCTV에 이들의 범행 장면이 고스란히 담겼습니다.

두 명 모두 10대 청소년으로 알려졌는데
지난 주,
이 곳에서만 차량 3대에서
현금과 상품권 등을 훔쳐갔습니다.

이들은 사이드 미러가 접히지 않은 차량이
잠금장치가 안돼 있다는 점을 노려 범행 대상으로 삼았습니다.

최근 이 일대 아파트 단지와 빌라 등에서
차량 도난 사고가 있따르고 있습니다.

주차장에 세워진 차량 가운데
창문이 열려있거나
차 문이 잠겨있지 않은
차량들이 절도 피해를 입었습니다.

유사한 사건이 이어지자
입주민들끼리 피해 상황을 알리고
차량 문단속을 철처히 하라는 메시지도 공유하고 있습니다.

경찰은 지난 14일,
아파트 단지에서 차량을 턴
10대 두 명을 절도 혐의로 검거했습니다.

경찰은 추가로 범행에 가담한 이들이 있는지
그리고 다른 차량 절도 사건에도 관여했는지
수사를 확대하고 있습니다.

이번 달에도
영어교육도시 일대에서
자전거 10여대와 차량에서 현금을 훔친
청소년 8명이 경찰에 붙잡혔습니다.

지난 2020년부터 2년 동안 발생한 청소년 범죄는 1천 8백여 건.

이 가운데
절도 사건은 740여 건으로
가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있습니다.
