Jeju (동부) Dongbu Police Station has referred a primary school teacher in the region to prosecution on charges of fraud for embezzling tens of millions of won through credit purchases.

According to the police, the suspect, a teacher in his 30s referred to as Mr. A, allegedly visited approximately 20 stores, including stationery and sports goods stores, in December of last year. He purchased gift certificates on credit, amounting to 80 million won, and embezzled the funds.

The suspect deceived sellers claiming that he would make payment through the school, but instead converted the purchased gift certificates into cash for personal use.

It has been reported the entire amount embezzled has been paid back in January. The POE has already relieved the teacher of his position.



상품권 8천만원 외상으로 편취한 초등교사 송치


제주동부경찰서는
외상으로 물건을 구입해
수천만 원을 편취한 도내 한 초등학교 교사를
사기 혐의로 검찰에 송치했습니다.

경찰에 따르면 피의자인 30대 A교사는
지난해 12월 도내 문구점과 스포츠용품 매장 등
20여 곳을 돌며 외상으로 상품권을 구입해
8천만 원 상당을 빼돌린 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

A씨는 학교에서 결제할 것이라고 속여
구입한 상품권을 현금으로 바꿔
개인적인 용도로 사용했으며,
지난 1월 외상한 금액을
전부 갚은 것으로 알려졌습니다.

교육청은 해당 교사를 직위 해제한 상태입니다.
