A second case of measles brought in from overseas has been reported this year, prompting health authorities to launch an epidemiological investigation.

An international traveller who arrived in Jeju on March 22, has tested positive for measles, health officials have confirmed. The individual, who showed symptoms consistent with the disease, was diagnosed following testing on April 3rd.

The patient had spent around 20 days in Vietnam before arriving in Jeju, officials said. Symptoms including fever and a rash began to appear on April 1.

Jeju authorities are currently carrying out an epidemiological investigation to trace the patient’s movements and identify any close contacts.

This is the second imported case of measles this year, following a confirmed case in February involving a foreign tourist. Health officials have confirmed that both cases were contracted overseas.

Measles is classified as a Category 2 infectious disease and spreads through airborne transmission.It is highly contagious, with key symptoms including fever, rash, and distinctive white spots inside the mouth.

Jeju authorities have urged the public to be aware that measles can be effectively prevented with vaccination.

지난 2월 외국인 관광객 1명의 확진에 이어 두 번째로
2명 모두 해외 유입 사례입니다.

홍역은 제2급 감염병으로
기침이나 재채기를 통해 공기로 전파돼 전염성이 강하며
주요 증상으로는
발열과 발진, 구강 내 회백색 반점 등입니다.

제주도는
홍역의 경우
백진접종으로 충분히 예방 가능한 만큼 관심을 당부했습니다.
