Governor dismisses speculation over second airport
Responds to claims that private capital would be used in construction

The governor of Jeju has dismissed speculation that private capital will be used to build the island’s second airport.

In a Thursday press conference from the provincial office, Won Heeryong said that the feasibility study being carried out by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance is based on the premise that the airport would be funded entirely by the government, adding that he was also opposed to the idea of using private-sector funding.

Won also said that the provincial government had not been contacted by a single corporation to that end. He said his administration would take stern measures in response to any further groundless claims.

Regarding facilities around the airport, a region called the “aircity,” Won said the province would consult residents on the matter after the feasibility study was complete.

국정감사장에서 제2공항의 대기업 민자 유치 의혹 제기와 관련해 원희룡 지사가 민간자본 투자 가능성은 없다고 일축했습니다.

원 지사는 오늘 오전 제주도청 기자실에서 기자간담회를 갖고 기재부의 제2공항 예비타당성 조사는 이미 국고 투입을 전제로 진행하는 것이라며 공항 기본 시설에 민간 자본유치 가능성은 없고 민간 자본을 끌어들이는 것도 반대한다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 제2공항 입지 발표 이후 제주도는 어떤 기업과도 일체 접촉이나 사업 제안을 받은 사례도 없다며
앞으로 근거없이 제기되는 의혹들에 대해 제주도 차원에서 심각하게 대처하겠다고 강조했습니다.

에어시티 등 공항 주변 시설 계획은 기재부의 예비타당성 조사가 끝나면 주민들과 협의해 추진하겠다고 덧붙였습니다.
