Public rentals to be built on former campus
Korea National Open University school building to be razed


Public rental housing units known as Happy Homes will be built on what was the Jeju campus of Korea National Open University.

The provincial government says it decided to tear down the old school building after it got a “D” in a safety assessment. In its place, rentals for university students, people new to the work force, and newlyweds will be built.

The site will be utilized as a temporary parking lot until construction begins.

Officials say they hope the construction of the new units will help revitalize the old Jeju City center.

노후된 옛 방통대 건물부지에 행복주택이 들어섭니다.

제주특별자치도는 안전진단결과 D등급을 받아 철거하기로 결정한 옛 방송통신대학 자리에 대학생과 사회초년생, 신혼부부를 위한 행복주택을 건립하기로 했습니다.

또 행복주택을 건설하기 전까지 주변 지역주민을 위한 임시 주차장으로 활용하기로 했습니다.

제주도는 행복주택 건설로 구도심을 활성화하는데 도움을 줄 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
