Jeju National University recently held an event for the hundreds of international students who study there. It was especially significant for Chinese students, who lately have had to deal with the fallout of recent violent crimes committed by Chinese tourists. Mike Balfour has more.

International Students’ Day at JNU
This is the 4th International Students’ Day organized by Jeju National University.
Foreign students from 15 countries participate in the event.
The cultural exchange is is an opportunity to make new friends.
For many homesick students from abroad this is a welcoming.

The event is special to Chinese students.
They have had to deal with increased scrutiny following the recent murder at a local Catholic church and violent behavior of Chinese tourists.

I'm so sorry about the recent violence and murder in Jeju by Chinese tourists. We therefore think we should be the best students we can be. I'm glad to make international friends and learn about different cultures.

"(중국인 범죄는) 정말 유감스럽습니다. 하지만 우리 학생들은 우리대로 열심히 하면 된다고 생각하고 있고요. 이번 활동을 통해서 많은 친구들을 알 수 있고 전세계 문화를 체험할 수 있어서 좋았습니다."
Currently, more than 900 international students attend Jeju National University.
This event opens the doors to borderless diversity.
