Typhoon damage tally tops ￦11.4b
Officials expect total to rise


Provincial officials say they have received reports of well over 10 billion won in damage caused by Typhoon Chaba.

As of Thursday, more than one thousand separate reports had been filed from 17 sectors. The total surpassed 11.4 billion won.

The storm did 8.1 billion won in damage to private property. That includes flooded homes and destroyed farming facilities.

The remaining 3.3 billion won in damage from the public sector included problems when water inundated UNESCO World Heritage sites and when the storm wreaked havoc with cultural heritage.

Authorities expect more damage reports in the coming days. They can be filed at community service centers up to 10 days after the storm.

제18호 태풍 차바에 의한 피해가 눈덩이처럼 늘고 있는 가운데 벌써 100억원을 넘고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 오늘(6일) 오전까지 접수된 태풍 차바 피해 신고는 17개 분야에 1천여건,
액수로는 114억 8천만원에 이르고 있습니다.

사유시설의 경우 주택침수나 파손, 농업시설, 축산시설 피해 등 81억원, 공공시설은 세계유산센터 침수와 문화재시설 파손 등 33억원 등입니다.

특히 아직까지 접수되지 않은 피해사례가 상당수에 이르러 최종적인 피해는 훨씬 커질 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

제주도는 피해시점을 기준으로 10일 이내에 읍면동 주민센터에 신고를 해야 보상을 비롯한 지원을 받을 수 있는 만큼 적극 나서줄 것을 당부하고 있습니다.
