Jeju seeks disaster zone designation
Designation comes with administrative, financial, and tax support


The provincial government has asked the national government to designate the island a disaster zone.

Local officials made the request Thursday, by which time the damage estimate had topped 11 billion won.

If designated as such, Jeju will be entitled to administrative, financial and tax-related support designed to speed up recovery efforts.

Separately, the province is considering an early distribution of disaster funding to residents currently trying to repair the damage left in the wake of the storm.

제주도를 특별재난지역으로 선포하는 방안이 추진되고 있습니다.

현재까지 접수된 피해규모가
특별재난지역 지정 기준인 90억원을 넘어섬에 따라
정부에 재난지역 선포를 건의했습니다.

'특별재난지역'으로 지정되면
긴급 복구작업을 위해
각종 행정과 재정, 금융,
세제상의 지원을 받을 수 있습니다.

제주도는 이와는 별도로
피해를 입은 도민들에게 빠른 복구를 돕도록
재난 지원금의 조기 지급을 검토하고 있습니다.
