Seafood industry: August catch down, but prices up
Catch tumbles 2%, revenue climbs 29%

Turning to some new figures from the seafood industry now...the August catch was lower than a year earlier, but revenue was up.

According to the Honam Statistics Office, the catch was down two percent on-year in August to 9,900 tons. The tilefish and rock bream catches were down 68 percent, cuttlefish tumbled 63 percent, and fishermen hauled in 57 percent less mackerel.

On the flip side, sales were much higher than last year, mostly due to increased prices for species like Japanese Spanish mackerel and conches. Revenue was up 29 percent to 78 billion won.

지난 8월 도내 어업생산량은 소폭 감소한 반면
생산금액은 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

호남지방통계청에 따르면
8월 도내 어업생산량은 9천900여 톤으로
지난해 같은 기간보다 2% 감소했습니다.

특히 옥돔과 돌돔 생산량이 전년보다 68%,
한치 63%, 고등어 57% 줄었습니다.

반면 부세와 삼치, 소라 등의 가격 상승으로
생산금액은 지난해보다 29% 증가한
780억 원으로 집계됐습니다.
