EV license plates to be tested
Different numbering system, better nighttime legibility


Officials have begun testing license plates designed specifically for electric vehicles.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Tuesday it plans to trial the EV-only plates on 100 vehicles for a month beginning Wednesday.

They have a different numbering system than normal plates and they are reflective, to enhance nighttime legibility.

Assuming all goes well in the trial, officials will begin issuing the plates to all electric vehicles next year.

전기자동차에 전용 차량 번호판이 부착될 전망입니다.

국토교통부는 전기차 보급 확대 차원에서 내일(12일)부터 한달 동안 도내 전기차량 100대에 전용 번호판을 부착해 시범 운행합니다.

전용 번호판은 전기차 표식과 야간에도 식별이 잘 되도록 반사기능을 더했습니다.

국토부는 시범 운영이 끝나면 내년부터 모든 전기차에 전용 번호판을 부착할 계획입니다.
