Chinese man indicted over murder in Jeju church
Chen Guorui accused of killing woman last month


50-year-old (천궈레이) Chen Guorui from China was indicted Wednesday on charges of killing a Korean woman at a Catholic church in Jeju City last month.

The Jeju District Prosecutors' Office said they indicted (천) Chen on charges of premeditated murder in the stabbing death. Authorities say he attacked the 61-year-old woman, identified only by her surname Kim, on September 17th when she was alone, praying inside the church. Kim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead a day after the attack.

During police interrogation, Chen is reported to have said he committed the crime because the victim reminded him of his former wives, who both left him after having extramarital affairs.

"고의 살인 인정" 검찰, 성당 살인 중국인 기소

지난달 17일 오전 제주시내 모 성당에서 기도하고 있던 60대 여성을 흉기로 살해한 중국인 50살 천궈레이 씨가 구속 기소됐습니다.

제주지방검찰청은 살인혐의로 구속된 천궈레이씨를 계획범행으로 결론짓고 기소했습니다.

검찰은 천씨가 2번의 결혼생활 파탄과 생계유지에 대한 불만 등을 품고 범행을 저지른 것으로 판단했습니다.
