Sea level hits highest point of year
Scattered reports of coastal flooding Tuesday



We had slightly higher than normal temperatures Tuesday, and island sea levels hit their highest point of the year.

Afternoon highs hit 26 degrees in Moseulpo, 24 in Seogwipo and 23 degrees in Jeju City. Those are all a bit above average.

However, there were reports of some coastal flooding beginning around 11 a.m. when the sea level was peaking.

It rose to 341 centimeters in Seogwipo and 290 centimeters in Seongsanpo at 11:18 a.m. Over in Moseulpo, the sea level rose to 308 centimeters by 11:54. Those are all about 20 centimeters above what is normally considered to be the highest levels of the year.

The National Oceanographic Research Institute predicts the water level will remain high until Thursday.

해수면 높이 올들어 '최고'…모레까지 주의

오늘 제주는 포근한 가을날씨를 보인 가운데 해수면 높이가 올들어 가장 높았습니다.

구름많고 포근했던 제주는 낮 최고기온이 모슬포 26도, 서귀포 24도, 제주시 23도로 어제와 비슷했고
평년보다 조금 높았습니다.

이런 가운데 낮 11시부터 해수면이 올들어 가장 높아지며 해안가 곳곳에서 침수피해를 입기도 했습니다.

낮 11시 18분 서귀포에서 341cm 성산포는 290cm까지 올랐고 모슬포는 11시 54분쯤 308cm까지 차올라 지난 백중사리 기간보다 최고 20cm가 높았습니다.

국립해양조사원은 모레까지(20일) 천문조에 의해 해수면의 높이가 높을 것으로 예상되는 만큼 주의해줄 것으로 당부하고 있습니다.
