Approval revoked for Eoeum wind farm
Police say Jeju Eco Energy had engaged in bribery


The provincial government has revoked approval for a wind farm in the community of Eoeum after police substantiated bribery allegations by the company spearheading the project, Jeju Eco Energy.

Investigators say the company bribed the head of the Eoeum village cooperative in order to gain an advantage in the licensing process.

The Eoeum wind farm development plan entailed the installation of eight 20-megawatt turbines on a 360,000-square meter site. It was expected to cost 95 billion won.

It has now become the first ever wind farm project in Jeju to have approval revoked.

뇌물수수 등 불법행위가 드러난 어음풍력발전단지 개발사업이 결국 취소됐습니다.

제주특별자치도는 제주에코에너지의 어음풍력 발전사업에 대해 관련 조례에 따라 사업 시행 승인을 취소한다고 밝혔습니다.

사업 인허가 과정에서 마을 조합장에게 뇌물을 제공한 사실이 경찰 수사 결과 드러났기 때문에 개발 사업 취소 사유에 해당한다고 설명했습니다.

어음풍력발전단지사업은 36만여 제곱미터 부지에는 950억을 들여 20메가와트급의 발전기 8기를 설치할 계획이었지만 제주지역 풍력사업 가운데 처음 취소 처분을 받았습니다.
