Jeju Batdam Festival this weekend

The Jeju Batdam Festival will be this weekend at the Jeju Batdam Park in Woljeong-ri, Gujwa-eup.

Batdam refers to the volcanic stone walls that crisscross the island.

Hosted by the provincial government and sponsored by the Jeju branch of the Korea Rural Community Corporation… this year’s festival will offer a variety of sights to see and things to do, under the theme “a thousand years of batdam, carrying the life of Jeju.”

Activities like hiking and wall building will help visitors experience Jeju’s batdam culture firsthand.

The black stone walls were listed as Korea Important Agricultural Heritage Systems in 2013. A year later, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations named them Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems.

제주밭담 축제 22일 개막…즐길거리 풍성

제주밭담 축제가 오는 22일과 23일 이틀 동안 구좌읍 월정리에 있는 제주밭담 테마공원에서 열립니다.

제주특별자치도가 주최하고 한국농어촌공사 제주본부가 주관하는 이번 축제는 '천년의 밭담, 제주의 삶을 담다'를 주제로 관람객들을 위한 다양한 볼거리와 즐길거리로 진행됩니다.

특히 제주밭담을 활용한 밭담 트레킹과 밭담 쌓기, 굽돌굴리기 같은 프로그램은 제주밭담 문화를 몸소 체험해보는 좋은 기회가 될 것으로 보입니다.

제주밭담은 지난 2013년 국가중요농어업유산으로 지정됐고 2014년 FAO 세계중요농업유산으로 등재됐습니다.
