Cruise ship arrivals top 1 million
New record in annual tally


For the first time ever, more than one million cruise passengers have visited the island within one calendar year.

The provincial government pegged the Tuesday tally at 997,000, and said another 3,000 arrived Wednesday, pushing the total past the milestone.

It’s around 400,000 more than last year, when about 620,000 tourists arrived on cruise ships. Officials had predicted the figure would reach one million by the end of the year, but it happened over two months earlier than even that.

An event to mark the occasion was held Wednesday at the Jeju International Cruise Terminal to mark the milestone.

제주를 방문한 크루즈 관광객이 사상 처음 100만 명을 돌파할 전망입니다.

제주특별자치도는 오늘까지 크루즈 관광객 99만 7천명이 제주를 찾았고 3천여 명이 방문하는 내일(19일)
100만명을 돌파할 것으로 예상했습니다.

이는 지난해 방문객 62만 명 보다 40만 명 가까이 급증한 수치로 당초 올해 목표 시점보다 두 달 이상 빠른 것입니다.

제주도는 크루즈관광객 100만 명 돌파 기념 환영행사를 내일 오후 제주국제여객터미널에서 개최할 계획입니다.
