A significant sum of money has been invested into horse-related industries in Jeju over the past year or so. Some of that funding went into a veterinary hospital that specializes in horse care. As Mike Balfour reports, it just opened.

A veterinarian is using a stethoscope on the belly of a horse in the process of diagnosing the animal’s problem.

As an abdominal disease is suspected, the vet also utilizes ultrasonic imaging.

This veterinary hospital, specializing in horses, has opened in Jeju - a first for the island and the nation.

Until now, about 10 local veterinary clinics on the island dealt with primary care such as simple diagnosis and local anesthesia for the animals.

Now horses can receive more specialized care.

5 billion won was been spent for the new hospital which is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and machines.

Arthroscopic surgery and laparotomies are possible at the hospital as general anesthesia can be administered .
