4. Province plans port upgrades
Major work in Jeju City, Seogwipo, Hallim

Local officials are planning some significant upgrades to the island’s seaports.

The province will build a 200-meter dock for national fishery inspection boats at Jeju Port. Officials have asked Seoul to modify its basic plan for the nation’s ports to accommodate that project.

It will expand Seogwipo Port’s docking facilities so that it can handle 10,000-ton ships. It’s now equipped for 5,000-ton vessels. It also plans to extend the pier by 468 meters.

Finally, local officials want to proceed with the second phase of a development plan at Hallim Port, in order to boost its berth capacity from 2,000 to 5,000 tons. The province will ask the national government to commission a feasibility study for that project.

제주도내 항만시설 확충 추진

제주도내 주요 항만 시설이 대폭 확충될 전망입니다.

제주특별자치도는 제주항에 200미터 길이의 국가어업지도선 전용부두를 짓기로 하고 정부에 항만기본계획의 변경을 요청했습니다.

또 서귀포항의 경우 대형선박이 취항할 수 있도록 현재 5천톤급의 접안시설을 1만톤급으로 늘리고 468미터의 외곽시설 개발을 추진합니다.

이와 함께 한림항 역시 접안시설을 현재 2천톤에서 5천톤으로 확충하는 내용의
2단계 개발사업을 수립해 정부에 예비타당성조사를 신청할 예정입니다.
