Radar being used to look for remains

Researchers have begun looking at the airport for the remains of April 3rd Incident victims.

The Jeju April 3rd Peace Foundation began Wednesday using ground-penetrating radar to look for burial sites at the airport. It will continue the work through Friday. Any areas that look like they may contain bodies will be excavated.

Between 2006 and 2011, researchers exhumed the remains of 396 incident victims from airport grounds.

제주국제공항 인근에 매장된 것으로 추정된 4.3희생자 유해 발굴이 시작됐습니다.

제주 4.3 평화재단은 오늘(25일) 부터 오는 27일까지 사흘 동안 제주공항 일대에서 4.3 희생자 유해발굴을 위한 레이더 탐사를 진행하고 있습니다.

탐사를 통해 매장지로 추정되는 구덩이 등이 발견되면 본격적인 발굴로 전환하게 됩니다.

제주공항 4.3희생자 유해발굴 사업은 지난 2006년부터 2011년까지 진행된 바 있으며, 당시 희생자 유해 396구가 발굴됐습니다.
