Vegetables & Fruits 'Spike'



The Jeju 5-Day Folk Market is bustling with shoppers.

However, the fruit shops are relatively quiet.


With prices like 5,000 won for a single pear and 10,000 won for three apples, the recent significant increase in fruit prices has led to fewer customers.

These days, domestic fruits are so expensive that it's hard for customers to even seek them out, so we've been focusing on selling imported fruits which are currently cheaper. Still, the fruit prices have risen a lot compared to before, making it a difficult situation.

Citizens who visit the market to shop feel hesitant to pick up items due to the daunting prices.

My baby really eats a lot of fruits. But it's become quite burdensome because the prices are so high.


Last month, the consumer price index in Jeju rose by 2.5% compared to a year ago, maintaining a 2% increase for five consecutive months.

While it might seem like the high price trend is stabilizing, that's not actually the case.

The living cost index, which shows the cost of living based on frequently purchased items, has exceeded the consumer price index.

The fresh food index, which includes items like fresh fish, vegetables, and fruits that are subject to large price fluctuations due to weather conditions or seasons, surged by 19.4%.

This is the highest increase since a 21.1% record in February 2011, 13 years and 1 month ago.

Looking at it by type of goods, agricultural and fisheries products, industrial products, electricity, gas, water, and services have all increased, adding to household burdens.

I run a restaurant, and the high prices make it hard to do business. It's worrisome because the prices are rising, and I don't know what to do.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance expects prices to stabilize this month as weather conditions improve and the effects of government discounts and supply price support spread.


However, it is expected to take time to alleviate the burden on the economy of the common people, as the shock of rising prices has built up over a long period.


물가 안정 '글쎄'…채소·과일 '급등'


제주시민속오일시장이 방문객들로 북적입니다.

그런데 과일 가게는 상대적으로 한산합니다.

배 1개에 5천원, 사과 3개에 만원 등
최근 과일 가격이 크게 오르면서 손님이 뜸해졌습니다.

요즘 국산 과일이 너무 비싸서 손님들도 찾아서 사기도 힘들고 하니깐 저희도 수입 과일이 요즘 저렴하게 들어오니깐 수입 과일 위주로 판매하고 있는데 그래도 과일값이 예전보다 많이 올라서 힘든 상황이고…

장을 보기 위해 시장을 찾은 시민들은
부담스러운 가격에 선뜻 물건을 집지 못합니다.

아기가 과일을 진짜 자주 먹거든요. 근데 너무 사기가 비싸니깐 부담이 많이 되긴 해요.



지난달 제주지역 소비자물가는
1년 전과 비교해 2.5% 올라
5개월 연속 2%대 상승률을 유지했습니다.

한동안 고공행진을 이어가던 물가가
안정세에 접어든 것처럼 보이지만 실상은 그렇지 않습니다.


자주 구매하는 품목으로 구성돼
체감물가를 보여주는 생활물가지수는 소비자물가를 웃돌았고

신선 생선과 채소, 과일 등
기상조건이나 계절에 따라
가격변동이 큰 품목으로 구성된 신선식품지수는
19.4% 급등했습니다.

지난 2011년 2월 21.1%를 기록한 이후
13년 1개월 만에 최대 상승률입니다.


품목성질별로 나눠봐도
농축수산물과 공업제품, 전기·가스·수도, 서비스 등이
일제히 오르며 가계 부담을 키웠습니다.

안 그래도 저도 식당을 하는데 물가가 너무 비싸서 장사도 안 되는데 물가는 비싸지 그래서 걱정이 많아요. 어떻게 해야 될지 모르겠어요.

기획재정부는
이달 기상 여건이 개선되고
정부의 할인·납품단가 지원 효과가 확산되면
물가가 안정될 것으로 전망했습니다.

하지만 물가 쇼크가 장기간 쌓여온 만큼
서민경제의 부담이 완화되기까진
시간이 걸릴 것으로 보입니다.
