The fire-setting event at the Jeju Fire Festival has been ruled illegal.

The Jeju Provincial Audit Committee announced that, after an investigation requested by the Jeju Provincial Council, the Jeju branch of the Justice Party, and the Jeju Green Party, three administrative measures have been recommended regarding the Fire Festival.

The audit revealed that between 2013 and 2023, the fire-setting event was conducted a total of eight times in areas adjacent to forests where such activities are prohibited by law.

Initially, the issue was to be resolved through a roundtable discussion. However, it was later handled through a public opinion survey, which is also a violation to local ordinances.

감사 결과
지난 2013년부터 2023년 사이
모두 8차례에 걸쳐
관련법상 불놓기를 할 수 없는 산림인접지역에서
오름불놓기 행사가 진행된 것으로 확인됐습니다.

이 밖에 들불축제 존폐 관련
숙의형 정책 개발 과정에서는
당초 원탁회의 방법으로 결정하기로 해놓고
공론조사 방식으로 추진된 것이
조례 위반으로 드러났습니다.
