A voice phishing gang posing as official institutions and offering fraudulent loans has been repeatedly targeted by Jeju police.

The Jeju Police arrested two cash collectors last December who impersonated institutions, met victims in person, and stole approximately 3.95 billion KRW.

In September last year, police arrested nine suspects linked to money laundering. Acting on orders from a voice phishing network, they recruited bank accounts to receive stolen funds and handled money transfers. Two of them were remanded in custody.

More than 1,100 cases of voice phishing have been reported in Jeju over the past three years. While the number of incidents has fallen from 409 in 2022 to 326 last year, financial losses remain in the billions of won.

제주 경찰에 잇따라 검거됐습니다.

제주경찰은
지난해 12월 기관을 사칭해
피해자들을 직접 만난 뒤
3억 9천 5백여만 원 상당을 가로챈 현금 수거책 2명을 검거했습니다.

또 지난해 9월에는
보이스피싱 조직의 지시를 받고
피해금을 이체받을 대포통장을 모집하고
돈을 보내는 역할을 담당한
자금세탁 피의자 일당 9명을 검거하고 이 가운데 2명을 구속했습니다.

이처럼 최근 3년 사이
제주에서 보이스피싱 범죄 1천 1백여 건이 발생했으며,

발생건수는
지난 2022년 409건에서
지난해 326건으로
감소세를 보이고 있지만
피해 금액은 수억 원대에 달하고 있습니다.
