In Jeju, where dual-income households are common, weekend school-based care classes launched last year have been well received. But the programme reach has been limited to only a handful of schools.

Now, the weekend care initiative, known as ‘Kkumnang(꿈낭),’ is reaching out further to rural regions.

Last weekend at an elementary school in Jeju City.
Normally, these classrooms would be empty, but children are attending a music class.

To address the gap in care for young students over the weekend, the ‘(꿈낭) Kkumnang Classroom,’ which uses school facilities, has now begun operating in towns and rural areas.

[Slug] For children aged 6 to 12, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends


This free weekend care program is offered for families with children aged 6 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Previously, it was only available at Ara Elementary School and (동홍) Donghong Elementary School, both in urban areas.
However, this year, it has been expanded to Suwon Elementary in Hallim-eup and (신례) Sinrye Elementary in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo City.

Children do not need to be students at these schools to participate in the weekend care program ? anyone can use it.

It’s not easy to balance work and home on weekends. This program is operated in cooperation between the local community, the Jeju Office of Education, and the province to care for children on behalf of working parents.

주말에 일과 가정을 양립하기가 쉽지 않은데요. 일을 나가시는 부모님들을 대신해서 지역사회와 함께 제주교육청과 제주도청이 협력해서 아이들 돌봄을 프로그램을 운영하게 되는 것입니다.

[Slug] In addition to regular enrollment, applications for temporary care are available

Parents can apply for morning or afternoon sessions on Saturdays and Sundays, and can also register for both.

Temporary care can also be requested as needed, for example during the tangerine harvest season.

초등주말돌봄 '꿈낭' 읍,면으로 확대 운영


지난 주말 제주시내 한 초등학교

평소 같은 텅비어 있을 교실이지만
아이들이 오카리나 연주 수업을 듣습니다.

[주말 돌봄 '꿈낭교실' 읍,면 지역 확대 운영]
주말동안 어린 학생들의 돌봄 공백 해소를 위해
학교 공간을 이용한 '꿈낭교실'이
읍면 지역에도 운영되기 시작했습니다.

[6~12살 어린이…주말 오전 9시~오후 5시 운영]
이 주말 돌돔 교실인 꿈낭은
6살 이상 12살 이하 아동을 자녀로 둔 가정을 대상으로
주말 오전 9시부터
오후 5시까지 무료로 운영됩니다.

종전에는 아라초와 동홍초에서 운영됐는데 모두 도심지역에 있었습니다.

하지만 올해 한림읍 수원초와
서귀포시 남원읍 신례초로 확대 운영되고 있는 겁니다.

[인근 지역 어린이들도 꿈낭교실 이용 가능]
이 주말 돌봄교실은
수원초나 신례초에 다니는 어린이가 아니어도
누구나 이용할 수 있습니다.

[정규반 외에 일시 돌봄 필요시 신청 가능]
토요일과 일요일 오전과 오후 반으로 나눠 신청할 수 있고
중복 신청도 가능합니다.

또 감귤 수확 등으로 일시 돌봄이 필요할 때마다 신청할 수도 있습니다.

[제주 맞벌이 가정비율 63%…전국평균 46%보다 높아]
제주지역 맞벌이 가정 비율은 63.5%로 전국 평균 46.1%보다 높습니다.
