Seogwipo City will select 280 foreign seasonal workers under its public employment program this year. They will be sent to farms with labor shortages.

This is more than double last year's 136 workers. The number of agricultural cooperatives operating the program will also expand to six, adding Hyodon (효돈), Jungmun (중문), and Jeju Citrus to the existing Wimi (위미), Daejeong (대정), and Seogwipo cooperatives.

Introduced in Jeju in 2023, the public seasonal worker program has helped ease labor shortages. It has won favor among farmers thanks to the strong work ethic of Vietnamese workers and lower labor costs.
