As the province reviews its Bus Rapid Transit, or BRT, project centered on island-style bus stops, concerns have been raised at the Jeju Provincial Council.

At the first meeting held on the 14th, Councilor Kim Dae-jin (김대진) said the nation’s first BRT project received government funding and warned that scrapping it could require returning those funds, urging a cautious approach.

Councilor Lee Nam-geun (이남근) questioned whether the province should continue with plans to purchase dual-door buses under the current circumstances. He also called for a review, citing concerns that the procurement process could lead to a market monopoly.

In response, the province acknowledged complaints from drivers but bus users have responded favorably and added to focus on improvements.

이남근 의원은 이런 상황에서 양문형 버스 계약을 계속 추진할 것인지에 대한 고민이 필요하고 일각에선 업체 독과점 우려도 나오고 있다며 검토를 요청했습니다.

이에 대해 제주도는 서광로 섬식정류장 도입 구간에 대해 자가용 운전자 중심으로 불만이 큰 것은 사실이지만 버스 이용자들의 호응이 있고
실제 긍정적인 데이터도 나오고 있다며
개선안을 찾는 방안으로 접근하겠다고 답했습니다.
