Island Investigations on Club Drugs Last month, a drug trafficking and distribution network involved in selling drugs such as Ecstasy and Ketamine in karaoke bars and foreigner-exclusive clubs in South (경상) Gyeongsang Province was apprehended by the Coast Guard. Amidst a series of drug crimes occurring in clubs and bars nationwide, a similar drug offender has been arrested in Jeju as well. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who was formerly affiliated with a club, has been arrested last month on suspicion of possessing dozens of Ecstasy pills and consuming them. Jeju District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Mr. A on charges of drug possession and consumption, and they have also announced that they are conducting supplementary investigations into individuals who were involved in drug consumption with him. Ecstasy, a new type of drug, is known as a "club drug" as it is primarily consumed by young people. It has a hallucinogenic effect that is three times stronger than that of methamphetamine. INTERVIEW Jo Gwang-won / Jeju Office, Korean Society of Drug Abuse Ecstasy is known to produce hallucinogenic effects that can induce a significant elevation in mood. It is indeed a drug that is commonly used by young people. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has stated that this case is unrelated to clubs, and it is difficult to disclose specific details regarding the case, including the specific charges, as the investigation is still ongoing. According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of newly identified drugs seized last year was 260 kg, which is more than a tenfold increase compared to two years ago. Among them, the quantity of Ecstasy seizures increased by seven times during the same period. With the recent arrest of an Ecstasy drug offender in Jeju, there is growing interest in whether the crimes are linked to related industries, as seen in nationwide cases, rather than being isolated incidents of individual crimes. The investigation results regarding any potential spread of crime to associated sectors have garnered significant attention.

  • Solving a quiz on Olle Trail
  • The participation of young people is increasing on Olle Trails with the addition of fun elements on the routes. A game has been released that can be played on your smartphone. They say it can kill two birds with one stone by not only providing entertainment, but also solving environmental problems. Attention is being made to whether it will become a new tourism model. Joseph Kim reports. A father and a daughter enter the Jeju Olle Tourist Center. Receiving a kit from the information desk, they sit down and solve the questions. It is a way to solve various missions while walking along the Olle Trail by using a smartphone and a kit. Entering the correct answer on your smartphone will guide you to the following places. As you complete missions and move to the next location, you can hear explanations from a commentator at cultural spaces between the Olle Trails. It’s not just about playing games. By carrying out duties such as picking up garbage and dumping it in the designated places, it even tries to solve some environmental problems in a fun way. As there is a greater need for outdoor activities due to Covid-19 and with unique elements of mission games, the participation of young people has also increased. Considering the average age group that would visit the Olle Trail were people in their 40s, it’s starting to change. As the smartphone-based contents have been added to include Jeju’s Natural environment, it is drawing attention if it would be established as a new tourism model. Joseph Kim, KCTV

  • 4. KTO to sell Korean packages with Chinese company Trip.com 60 products introduced on live show Korea Tourism Organization and China's largest travel company, Trip.com, will sell the first Korean tourism products since the COVID19 outbreak first began. The organization announced on June 30 a plan to introduce over 60 domestic hotel and travel products on the 'Super Boss Live Show' held jointly with Trip.com on July 1st. Some are viewing this as a sign that China is relaxing the systematic discouragement of the purchase of Korean products, which had been caused by the deployment of THAAD in 2016. However, the Korea Tourism Organization clearly stated that it was only an individual promotion and was not related to the cancellation of the Chinese government ban of Korean products or the resumption of group travel packages to Korea. 2.
